Terms of Use — A Note for Us

A Note for Us (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is a small, private shared journal. People who are close share a “Corner” and each leaves one small thing a day. These terms are the few rules that keep it a kind place. By creating an account you agree to them.

The short version

• You must be 16 or older.
• Only post what you’d be comfortable with everyone in your Corner seeing, and only what’s yours to share.
• No abuse, no harassment, nothing illegal, and never anything that harms a child.
• What you post stays yours. We only use it to run the app for you and your Corner.
• If someone breaks these rules, tell us. We can remove content and close accounts.

Who can use the app

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account or use the app. Each account is for one person. Keep your password to yourself: you are responsible for what happens under your account.

Your Corners

A Corner is private to its members. Everything posted in a Corner, including what was posted before someone joined, can be seen by every member. Keep that in mind when you invite someone.

• Invite links: anyone who has a Corner’s invite link can use it to join. Share it only with the people you mean to invite.
• Members can remove members: a member of a Corner can remove another member. Someone who has been removed can only come back if they are invited again by email.
• Leaving: you can leave a Corner at any time. What you posted there stays for the other members, unless you delete your account and choose to remove everything.

What isn’t allowed

Don’t use the app to post, share or do any of the following:

• Harassment, bullying, threats, or encouraging anyone to hurt themselves or others.
• Hateful content that attacks people for who they are.
• Intimate or sexual images of anyone without their consent, or anyone’s private information without their permission.
• Content that is illegal, or that promotes illegal activity.
• Content you don’t have the right to share, such as someone else’s photos or work.
• Spam, scams, or pretending to be someone you’re not.
• Trying to get into someone else’s account or Corner, to break or overload the app, or to use it through scripts or automated tools.
• Anything that sexually exploits or endangers a child. We have zero tolerance for this and report it to the authorities. See our Child Safety Standards.

Your content

What you post stays yours. By posting it, you give us permission to store it, encrypt it, and show it to the members of your Corner, only as far as needed to run the app. That permission ends when the content is deleted, apart from copies kept for a short time in backups or where the law requires us to keep them. We don’t use your content for advertising, and we don’t use it to train AI.

Reporting a problem

If you see something that breaks these rules, please tell us: in the app, open Settings → Privacy & data → Report a safety concern, or email contact [at] a-note [dot] app. If someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first.

What we can do

When we receive a report, we may review the content it is about. Content in a Corner is encrypted, but our systems allow us to access reported material for this purpose. If we find that content or an account breaks these terms, we may remove the content, suspend or close the account, and keep the information needed for a lawful investigation. We’ll act fairly, but we don’t have to give notice where doing so would put someone at risk.

Leaving the app

You can stop using the app and delete your account at any time, from Settings → Privacy & data → Delete account, or as described on our account deletion page.

The app is in beta

A Note for Us is still being built and tested. It is free during the beta. Features may change, appear or go away, and things may sometimes break. We work hard to keep your posts safe, but please keep your own copy of anything you couldn’t bear to lose.

Our responsibility

We provide the app “as is”, without promises that it will always be available or free of errors. As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for indirect losses, or for what other people post in your Corners. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have by law that can’t be limited.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, let you know in the app. If you keep using the app after a change, you accept the new terms.
